gLASSsHRiMP radio – Mon 30th June 2008

our last show tonight ’til September and have we a special one in store!

tonight we present our (now annual) Tapestry Goes West Festival Special

we welcome Tapestry head-honcho Barry Stillwell to the studio along with 2 acts appearing at this years festival…

live music from Smokey Angle Shades –  London-based (via Belfast & Liverpool) acoustic-ish four-piece with harmonies – check their myspace for sounds – couple of the guys were recently in the Fools with current Paul Weller skinsman Steve Pilgrim; highly rated by Barry… did look for some further info and stumbled on this by B.M. on oxfordbands.com (ta!) and having not seen them live this might suit us all better… “Unfortunately these days, it is miraculous when a band gets more than 2 people to sing vaguely in harmony. Thus, any barbershop element inevitably leads to knee-jerk Beach Boys comparisons. But I refuse to stoop to that. The Shades are a cut above those poncy Beach Bums and firmly from the country-blues school of CSNY. Hearts are broken, soulful harmonies are delivered with gusto, and there’s no f*cking surf-board in sight.” rumoured to bringing an upright piano with them tonight.

live chap-hop performance also from Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer – chap-hop, introducing Hip-Hop to the Queen’s English. “Undisputedly the baddest Edwardian in the music scene today, Mr. B’s unique blend of old-school breaks and period hooks is guaranteed to get any joint jumping” – Mr B will be with us tonight with his banjolele and his tales of pipe-smoking, high society, Cricket and sexual misadventure. key influences Chuck D, Terry Thomas, Afrika Bambaataa & Noel Coward.
